Evelyn Ortiz Named Working Mother of the Year for Zoetis
Zoetis will be recognized at the Working Mother 100 Best Companies Gala
Awards Dinner on Oct. 18th at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. The
event is part of the Work Life Congress annual conference held from
Oct.17-18.
Evelyn Ortiz, Human Resources Business Partner and Chief Talent Officer
at Zoetis’ corporate headquarters in Parsippany, N.J., will be
recognized at the event as the Zoetis 2016 Working Mother of the Year.
Evelyn joined Zoetis in 2013 and has been instrumental in developing the
company’s talent and development strategies.
Evelyn is being recognized for the way she handled recent health
challenges, while maintaining commitments to her work and family. Last
year, just days after receiving a promotion, Evelyn was diagnosed with
Stage 3 breast cancer. “My biggest worry was that I wouldn’t be there
for my daughter, Rosie, and my husband, Victor. It was a very dark time
for me,” she said.
Evelyn underwent a double mastectomy and four months of chemotherapy.
She was able to return to work six months after her diagnosis, and
continues to be a high-performing employee. “Zoetis gave me the
flexibility to stay connected during my treatment (which I did), or to
just focus on myself if that’s what I needed. This helped me
tremendously, and I am so grateful for the support I received from my
colleagues and manager,” she said. More than anything, Evelyn wanted to
be a role model for her daughter, and show her that with love and
support, even the most challenging times can be overcome. “Now I just
focus on the positive. I cherish my family and each moment I have.”
Working Mother Magazine will feature profiles on both Zoetis and
Ms. Ortiz in the October/November issue and online today at www.workingmother.com.
